Designing a Physiotherapy Clinic
This project consisted of the reform and interior design of a local to convert it into a Physiotherapy and Osteopathy Clinic in Denia.
The program of needs required: an open-plan room with sufficient capacity to carry out group activities, at least two physiotherapy “boxes” or private rooms large enough to hold a stretcher and with sufficient circulation space free of obstacles around them, an adapted toilet and a reception area and waiting room.
The first step was to sit down with the owner and find out exactly what she was looking for and what she expected from her clinic. We needed to know how he worked, what the daily operation of a physiotherapy clinic was like, from the reception of patients to the possible treatments that required special equipment. But also to tell us what his dream clinic was like, how he imagined it, if he had any requirements, predilection for any color, finish?
Something important for her was that the main box had natural light and that it had enough capacity to house a stretcher and a work table, that the diaphanous room was as large as possible, the floor had to be parquet and the predominant color had to be green.
Once the requirements were known, it was necessary to study the location and the possibilities it had. It had an area of 85 square meters, except for the pillars, the rest was diaphanous, the former bathroom was located at the back and had three large windows that provided natural light. In order to minimize costs we decided to keep the bathroom in the same area where it was located so that we could use the same facilities or modify them as little as possible.
With all this information and with the regulations in hand we had to get down to work and this was the result: a physiotherapy clinic with three boxes, the main one bathed by natural light with a work area and a small office; an open room of 22 square meters, a large reception area, an adapted toilet and a small storage room for private use.
Upon entering the clinic we find the waiting room and reception, on the right a wooden panel with a hidden door covers a small residual space which we were able to take advantage of to create a small closet. The waiting room, designed not only for adults but also for children, has a small play area. The counter was designed and created especially for the clinic. A corridor distributes the clinic: to the left are the main box and the open-plan room; to the right are two more boxes. And at the back the adapted bathroom from which you can access under lock and key to the small private storage room. To make the most of the natural light we had skylights between the different spaces.
As the predominant color for the clinic we opted for white, a color associated with health due to the purity and sense of cleanliness it transmits and its great capacity to reflect light. And green, the owner’s favorite color, to give small touches of color to the different rooms.
The open-plan room is equipped with mirrors, suspension equipment and accessories such as pilates balls and mats. For the balls, we took advantage of the gap between pillars to create an open storage area by means of pillar-to-pillar fastening bars. Although we were initially looking for aesthetically thinner bars, we were forced to increase their profile because of the danger they could pose in a room frequented by children, who saw them as the perfect place to hang themselves.
The result was a cozy, bright clinic, with great equipment and where the patient, in addition to knowing that he is in good hands, can enjoy the comfort and tranquility that it breathes.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Estefanía Catalá for trusting our studio to make the clinic of her dreams come true and for giving us the opportunity to carry out such a creative project.
